How do I care for my saddle?

Caring for your saddle correctly is really important to keep it in top condition. Leather is a natural product with unique markings and characteristics and taken care of correctly your Frank Baines saddle will last for years and years.

General cleaning

After every use, wipe down with a soft, dampened cloth to remove sweat, dirt and residue
To remove heavier mud and dirt use a soft damp cloth or sponge and warm water. Using small circular motions clean the entire surface of your saddle
Do not clean with abrasive products, glycerin or solvents as this will damage the leather
Avoid areas made from makala leather as they will need to be cleaned differently. See other FAQs here
Ensure you reach the underside and in between flaps.
When the saddle is clean use a damp towel to remove any excess leather cleaner residue
Use a clean, dry towel to dry metal fixings. If you do use a metal polish on them be careful to avoid the leather

Conditioning

Periodically conditioning your leather will help maintain its natural oils and suppleness. We recommend using Frank Baines Leather Balsam as it’s made from natural avocado oils, lanolin and beeswax
A complimentary pot will arrive with your saddle. Additional pots can be purchased from our online store
Frequently treat your saddle with leather balsam especially during the summer when heat and light will dehydrate the leather more quickly
Do not clean with abrasive products, glycerin or solvents as this will damage the leather
