Saddlery Competition Success

Saddlers from Frank Baines were overwhelmingly successful at this years Society of Master Saddlers‘ National Saddlery Competition. All of our saddlers who entered either won or were recognised with a premier award.

Garry Baines, director at Frank Baines Saddlery, said: “The annual competition, held at Saddlers’ Hall in London and hosted by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, is a prestigious competition for the industry. Frank Baines was a regular winner in previous years before becoming a judge which precluded our saddlers from entering. 2019 is the first time in 24 years that we entered and our saddlers were thrilled to be able to showcase their work and the quality of their craftsmanship such as cutting, seaming, stitching, finishing and assembly.

Our winners were:

Stephen Wragg – 2nd Place winner in the Open Saddle Class

Jack Moseley – 2nd Place winner in the Trainee Saddle (Trade) Class & awarded a Premium Award for the same class

Keith Richardson – Premium Award Winner in the Open Saddle Class

Michael Roper – Premium Award Winner in the Open Saddle Class

Anthony Barnes – Premium Award Winner in the Open Saddle Class

Simon Woolley – Winner of the Trade/Company Saddle Class (no 2nd or third places)

Simon Woolley – Winner of the Neil McCarraher Trophy – this is judged on the quality of craftsmanship and commercial viability

We’re thrilled for all our saddlers and the winning saddles will be proudly displayed in our new showroom.
