Frequently asked questions

01
Can I design my own saddle?

Yes you can!  Build My Baines is our award winning digital saddle builder, use it to customise the saddle of your dreams!

Build My Baines has been developed to transform your bespoke saddle buying experience. It enables you to experiment with colours, materials and other key features such as the seat, gusset, knee pads, flaps, front & back facing, back cantle, welt and stitching. You will be able to see what your saddle will look like before you place your order, so you don’t need to worry about such an important purchase.

02
How do I store my saddle?

It is really important to store your saddle correctly. Caring for your saddle isn’t just about looking after the surface, leather is affected by climate conditions so we recommend that you:

  • Store your saddle and any accessories in a dry place, away from heat, sunlight and damp to prevent mould growth. It’s always a good idea to thoroughly clean and moisturise your saddle before storing
  • Use your Frank Baines Saddle cover to protect the surface of the leather during transportation and while it is being stored
  • If your saddle gets wet, remove water with a dry cloth. Then leave it to dry naturally away from direct heat.  Store it in a dry place
  • Do not stack your saddle as this can damage the flocking
03
How much do your saddles cost?

Frank Baines Saddlery is a saddlery manufacturer and we only sell our saddles through approved stockists. Please contact your nearest fitter to obtain the correct price for your country, as prices may vary depending on import taxes and shipping costs.

Why is it important to get measured for a saddle?

Buying a saddle is an important decision and so it is always beneficial to get advice from experts who will listen to your needs and be able to see and measure your horse. They can give you the professional advice you need to make this important purchase. This will result in the best saddle for your horse and you.

Every horse and rider is unique. From horses high withers and curved spines to riders, with all lengths of legs we have made saddles to fit them all. We know that when it comes to a saddle there is no such thing as a universal fit.

Like many other items you buy tailor-made, when you measure you get something that fits better and a saddle is no exception. We only work with trained saddle fitters, who also know how important a proper fit is for safety, horse health, horse performance and to improve your comfort, balance and stability.

Your saddle fitter will assess the shape of your horse, take lots of important measurements and help you to choose the Frank Baines saddle that will suit your needs.
